surf the wave of CHANGE!

Over the last 10 years, we experienced a change in the expression CHANGE MANAGEMENT, what was usually the umbrella for all projects with "change relevance" like Strategic Re-Disgn, Restructuring, Transformations etc.! Nowadays often Change Management is just considered as the "People Mobilization" part. Indeed this is a core piece with increasing relevance to ensure the organization and people do not get "tired of change" due to the increasing change projects and their simultaneous roll out, what indeed became our all new reality over the recent years.
Change Management, especially including Digitalization, is in everyone's ears, a big trend by itself. Many Business Leader feel "forced" to become a professional by themselves, and the jungle of fancy concepts, methods, trainings and certificates, is even for profound specialists, hard to navigate through!! 
Manager, Business Leader in Stakeholder learned already that there is just one answer to the question, if you are a Change Leader and familiar with Change Management. And to be fair, Change Management is for Business Leader just one topic among many, right? - Somehow the balance seems to be shifted. Therefore we would like encourage every Manager, Business Leader, CEO/ VP or MD, HR Manager or Project Lead out there, to get back to the essentials, the roots & basics, which indeed did not much change over the years and get the support, what really fits their needs.

SIMPLIFY! FOCUS! PLAN! BREATH! CHANGE!

A few of us, Surfer ourselves, thought this is actually a pretty fitting analogy to CHANGE! An analogy what let us focus on the main topic and blend out the confusing jungle of re-re-re-invented concepts which proof herewith their today's validation.

SURFING THE WAVE OF CHANGE means first of all leaving the safe habitat of feeling stable ground below your feet. You are dealing now with the element water, influenced by partly uncontrollable forces, like the weather (first of all wind), the moon and marine geothermic f.e.! You are aware of some common known risks like backwashes, the pull-effect of unexpected water flows, wash cycles, hidden rocks & riffs or, for example, toxic jelly fishes and sharks. But all those risks, with the right knowledge, planning and experience, seem to be manageable and in comparison to the fun and expected outcome, nothing what keeps you away from the beach. So you decide to...

RIDE THE WAVE!

You planned for that properly, you have the right equipment and tools, the sun is shining, the waves looking promising and the wind is stable. It´s all on "GO" and nothing can stop you now... all is safe and you are READY - fully prepared.
You paddle out and you get an idea the water is already colder as expected, it becomes hard to paddle against resistance, as the waves seems really huge. 
You know for a fact, as you decided for this location (in your preparation/ planning phase), there are no sharks and no hidden rocks in that area - good news so far. Finally you reach your starting point, excited, a bit nervous and the adrenalin is kicking in. You feel the pull back of the upcoming wave - so it´s "NOW OR NEVER" - the urgency to act. In that moment when your feet touch the board the RIDE of the wave of CHANGE started.
You feel the unapologetic forces of nature, the wave is building up high, the water you feel below your board is revealing it´s full power and you speed up. You try to find your balance and now there is this one moment - the moment where all planning, all ("over-") thinking, all tries to control, to steer or act according the book, all analytics and strategic approaches are simply "gone". Now it´s all about what you've learned, what you experienced, what you discussed and stored as "wisdom" in your repertoire. 

IT´S JUST YOU AND THE OCEAN!

The circumstances you face become more challenging,  you risk to get off balance & you feel the wave will break immediately just over you.  What now?! Your Partner in Change, your surf instructor, is not here, not with you on the board. It is all about what you know, what you prepared for and what you experienced already what you can apply to this new situation and changed circumstances - to be frankly, paired up with your subconscious knowledge, instincts and "feeling"/ intuition. This is the moment when ...

Agility & flexibility are needed!

You apply strategies, tools & knowledge that makes the situation work out for you. It is mainly the transfer of what you "have"/"know" onto something new/changed. Means agile re-actions in CHANGE are mostly based on already existing knowing, processes, practices or experiences. Riding the wave of Change means that everything what you want to achieve with the Change, any interventions, methods, tools, the roadmap - the planning & equipment f.e. - have to be finalized before you put your feet on the board. In the moment you choose the wave, start paddling and jumping on the board, finding your balance and ride, it is up to the ad-hoc interventions, the agile management of changed circumstances of the Change Process itself. It´s the time to trust in yourself first of all, your concept but also your ability of managing the challenges.

Corona Virus / Covid-19

Covid-19 is causing a high level of uncertainty in our society. We are all stuck in a "shocking phase" and despite of all the "live tracker" and news updates, we don’t feel well-informed. This crisis is affecting us on different levels; beside the stress to manage personal consternation and fear while focusing on crisis management in business context, the uncertainty regarding current and future state; all this impacts people as well as economies all around the globe. The business on the market are at different stages when it comes to creation, implementation and following a proper contingency/ emergency plan. The plans itself as well as the complexity and level of both, preventive and re-active actions, vary a lot. Reasons are often the size & maturity of the organization, the regions & local footprints, branch or specialization as well as financials & number of business contacts (supplier/customer).
Companies which have had a crisis plan in place even before the Corona Virus kicked in, were forced to update their plans, whereas others who didn't have any plan at all, were and are forced to react - and create not just a plan but also a fitting implementation concept - at a very short notice. We know that there is still a significant number of companies, which lack in parts or in total on a crisis plan and even more companies facing major struggles while implementation. 

The Zadkiel C&C-Team as a "project" wants to support not only to the big companies but much more the "small businesses" to cope with the challenge. Small organizations/ medium-sized organizations are the ones, who experience the worst case scenario first, if they do not already right now. Corona causes for them an existential crises extremely fast, in case they are not able to keep their daily operations running. As our economy is not only built on the "too big to fail" - companies, a breakdown of many small companies & employers will have and has already an undeniable negative impact on our economy, federal budget and long-term possibly on our level of prosperity.
